Radikalisasi Online Kelompok Teroris di Indonesia
Mirra Noor Milla. “Online Radicalization of Terrorist Groups in
Indonesia.”
An effective use of the Internet by terrorist groups makes the
process of online radicalization may occur. Online radicalization is
basically a gradual radicalization process that uses online media other
than the media face to face directly. Radicalization through the Internet
in Indonesia has not fully replaced the face-to-face radicalization. In the
online radicalization, the Internet serves as venue for the radicalization
process and as accellerant for collective action. The characteristics of
the Internet that are relevant in this case are freedom and anonymity.
Through online discussions, the candidates feel free to express and
to demonstrate their ideological choices without fear of rejection and
without engagement in the real political activity. They also feel to be
part of the critical mass that will eventually drive to the involvement in
collective action. The Internet can also replace the function of the jihad
arena as incubator of radicalization. The battlefi eld of jihad can be
confl ict zone as well as military training camp or an i’dad activity, which
become a meeting point for jihadists from various groups. In this regard,
the Internet becomes incubators of radicalization through discussion
and propaganda, and becomes the jihad arena through the provision
of repetitive training and a combat experience. The Internet can change
the mechanism of communication in the process of radicalization, but it
does not change the basic pattern of the radicalization process and its
stages, namely pre-radicalization, self-identifi cation, indoctrination and
commitment, and jihadisation.
