Mahargyantari Purwani Dewi & Hendro Prabowo. “Social
Desirability in Research by Psychology Students of the Digital
Generation.”
This paper analyzes social desirability tendency in the use
of psychological scales. This tendency occurred in the research of
psychology students at the undergraduate (S1), master (S2), and
doctoral (S3) levels. The social desirability tendency was believed to
be triggered by the students’ mention of the name of the variable that
was examined through the social media linked to google.docs resulting
in the respondents’ tendency to answer the scale by either faking good
or faking bad. A survey on a total of 32 research reports indicated that
25 of them mentioned the name of the research variable, hence opening
the risk of the social desirability bias. University teachers categorized
as digital immigrants need to be convinced about the possible danger of
the excessive openness of their students categorized as digital natives.
