Media Sosial dan Human Trafficking: Sebuah Ulasan
Ike Herdiana. “The Social Media and Human Traffi cking: A Review.”
Predators of human traffi cking are starting to recruit young people as
their prospective victims though the online social media. In fact about a
quarter of the total number of children reported as missing in Indonesia is
believed to be kidnapped after meeting their captors through the Facebook.
More than merely spending much time, children and adolescents also
share pictures and information about their private lives online. Having
a good knowledge about their privare lives human traffi cking predators
can make personal contact with them and gain their trust. Getting only
a weak control of their parents for some seemingly reasonable reasons,
children and adolescents tend to use the online social media so intensely
unaware of its possible negative effects including cyberbullying and
online harrassment, sexting, and Facebook depression. Such conditions
may easily put them into risk of becoming human traffi cking victims.
Psychologists may contribute in conducting both preventive and curative
measures through direct actions as well as through the social media.
